hey Jess!! Ahh I have had some tummy problems with oats in the past too.. look for some G-Free brands (I like Bob's Red Mill) and see if that does the trick! And also vary between regular rolled oats and steel cut oats. Sometimes one or the other will be better on the tummy. Thanks so much for entering the giveaway. I wanted to choose so many winners but I ended up going with a girl who is training for a half Ironman and is on the go 16 hours a day plus! But I will have two giveaways on the blog next week -- stay tuned and check them out!! Thanks for reading!! :)

Hey girl, sounds like we are in a totally similar boat!!! I love connecting with other people who have had similar struggles to find what works for them food wise -- it sounds like you are finding your way, just like me. And yay for half-marathon runners :) Thanks so much for entering the giveaway... I seriously wanted to choose so many winners but I ended up going with a girl who is training for a half Ironman and is on the go 16 hours a day plus! But please continue entering my giveaways -- I will have two more on the blog next week!! Also, yes... I suggest staying away from dairy if its giving you tummy problems. Fully eliminating it from my diet changed my life!

I LOVE THIS RECIPE!!! I was a bit like you in the sense that I struggled to move away from having a green smoothie for breakfast every morning because a) I love my smoothies so much because they are delicious, b) I felt that a green smoothie was such a healthy way to start my day that nothing could really replace that! But, like you, I love excersising and when I started to train for my first half marathon I realised that I needed to pay attention to what I was eating to fuel my body properly otherwise I would feel tired and wouldn't be able to run as well. So this recipe is definitely a keeper for me!!

Also, when I ran my first half-marathon I wasn't a vegan (I'm still not a full vegan but most of my meals are dairy free) and I would often have muesli with yogurt for breakie but the dairy always gave me a bit of a tummy ache so these oatmeal types of recipes are a great alternative to muesli and yogurt!!

Jordan, this looks AMAZING!

I think I'm willing to give oats a go again. Like you, I traditionally eat lots of smaller vegan meals during the day and have a juice or smoothie for my "first breakfast". I had some stomach troubles with oats (really, I thought they would have been the last thing to upset my tummy), but I think I might try and find some GF ones in Whole Foods in Canada.

In reply to <a href="https://thebalancedblonde.com/2014/03/03/chocolate-lovers-oatmeal/#comment-20923">Sophie</a>.

Hi Sophie! I used to be a devout calorie-counter, and it definitely made me feel extremely OCD. It's not an enjoyable way to live, or a healthy way to enjoy food. Ever since I switched over to the plant-based lifestyle I've found that I have been able to let go of my calorie counting obsession. When everything you're putting into your body consists of whole, natural foods from the earth then you know you are fueling yourself in a healthy way and calories do not matter. Especially when you're sticking to three meals a day! If I eat one really big meal that I know has a lot of calories, I will scale back on the next meal. It's all a balancing act. Intuitive eating is amazing, I would highly recommend looking into it. It definitely might help you out. And my best advice is - when you're eating whole, plant-based foods your body will tell you how much you need to eat. And that is the most wonderful way to be!! Wishing you lots of luck. Xo

This is some major food porn!!

I was wondering do you count calories or just eat your bigger meals? I usually count calories but it is making me feel SO OCD lately that I'm hoping to go into intuitive eating. I just worry about eating enough/not too much!
