I get that you have an eating disorder, but you make it look like veganism creates eating disorders in people. Your main motivation in becoming vegan is for "health" reasons probably. I don't blame you but damn, you don't need dairy to get protein. -__-

In reply to Jordan Younger.

Hi Jordan,
No, the world didn't end but neither did the unimaginable misery taking place in our factory farms. I don't see how toxic whey and chlorine-producing sucralose makes you feel light and healthy, and I don't see how the amount of whey protein in a Quest Bar equals "trace" amounts of dairy.

I don't mean to minimize your eating disorder in any way but you know full well factory farmed animals, or in this case, dairy cows don't have a say when it comes to being repeatedly impregnated only to have their newborns ripped from their lives to be slaughtered. Your dollars are supporting that cruel industry. Have you ever hears a mother cow crying out for her calf when its taken away by a subhuman farmer?

No, the world did not end but some will argue we already put into the motion the end of our world. For years U.N. scientist have been saying the most destructive climate-warming gases come from factory farms. We as a species just go about our business in denial and welcome the destruction of our planet while allowing Western diseases to take over our bodies.

There are two types of vegans: those that do it for the animals and those that do it for health. I'm the former and you're the latter which is why I'm still at it for 27 years. This is not my attempt to minimize what you've done in your life to improve your health and point out I'm superior in some way. I just want you to understand when it's about the animals and what they go through every second of every day, it's no problem eating vegan until you pass from this earth. But let's face it, vegans make up 2% of the U.S. population and that's not going to save our planet when 98% of people still eat like they have a choice to go to another planet to live when this one goes down the toilet.

All I'm saying is your dollars do have an impact whether it's good or bad is up to you. From what I can tell, magazine articles and ads about food, cooking shows, going out with friends for a meal who are not on a plant-based diet, all undermine your road to a healthy, cruelty-free lifestyle.

I do wish you the best but I'm not going to pretend and say you've chosen the right path. I do understand you have an eating disorder but why must you go backwards? If you must go the animal route, can't you do your homework and find an ethical source of whey, and not because it says so on a label? Do your research. Go visit the farm. Make your own bars. Do whatever it takes to give animals and our planet a break. Have you pushed until you can't do it anymore?

I'm sorry if this sounds like an attack. I just want you to be aware that you can make a difference. Again, be ethical when you use animals as a resource.

Good luck.

I was raw vegan for a really long time and grew up vegetarian as well.. but recently I wanted to explore other options, as I personally did not feel satisfied "just" eating a salad when everyone else wasn't (I try to stay away from wheat as it triggers binges...). So what did I do? I started eating fish in restaurants... and I haven't ever felt better. Sure my protein of choice will always be tofu, but having other options after 20 years of being "ok" with being vegetarian has really felt freeing. Also, with all the sports that I do, the extra protein is really helping and I am glad I took that leap of faith and left 100% raw veganism to a more laid back diet incorporating more healthy, whole foods :)

I'm a vegan and I don't agree that we need animal products to feel good / be healthy / or that it's ethical ect ect but wtf is YOUR problem. She's fat in the before picture? Are you crazy? Way to go fat-shaming a perfectly healthy figure. Go disagree with her lifestyle choices, I don't agree with them either (sorry Jordan, part of the reason I went vegan were ethical reasons, so "but it tastes good" and "but I won't die from eating it" are not terribly valid for me. I don't even think that the idea consuming animal products is inherently evil, but the way our modern society sources those products is evil, but I digress... ), but be respectful and constructive about it - it's vegans like you that make all vegans look bad.

Girl, don't feel like you need to defend yourself to the world. So many people see you as an inspiration, confirmation that people change & ideals change & bodies change & that THAT'S OKAY.
I love the title of this! I think we often think of our dietary preferences as religions and we are going to some weird dietary hell if we break a "rule" -but we don't! Wow!! So great to hear you say that. I truly believe that when you're giving your body what it wants/needs/craves, your body will find its ideal weight. Balance is a beautiful thing. Thanks so much for sharing. (Oh, and I agree about the mean spirited vegans. It's almost comical how much time they waste harassing strangers when they claim to be the most ethical and compassionate of them all. Very sad.)

I was vegetarian/vegan for twenty-ish years.... not anymore ... I wouldn't worry about weight gain too much. I find it easier to maintain my weight now that I eat fish (sometimes other meat when I crave it)... I even incorporated some goat cheese back into my life & surprisingly, I lost a few pounds. I don't have crazy weight fluctuations anymore & I'm not hungry all the time! (Just looked at your "before" picture & you look beautiful!). I can't believe mean spirited vegans have nothing better to do than visit your blog to harass you.
