Hi Jordan!

Thank you for this article. I am a fellow acid reflux and stomach problem sufferer. I also love all things coffee, but it was really causing issues. I tried Dandy Blend dandelion tea (https://dandyblend.com/), and it is amazing! It tastes very much like coffee without the stomach issues and has lots of health benefits to boot! It’s also caffeine-free, so you can get your fix whenever you need it. I hope you try it!

Great post. Thanks
FYI, Tyler’s no acid regular and decaf coffee available on Amazon and at Natural Grocers. Delicious.

Stash makes green tea chai that is low caffeine and lower acid.

Two good options for Gerd or stomach issues. Take care y’all.

I have slight hiatal hernia and slight reflux but have had a burning soreness in my throat for 18 months now. My ENT allows me one coffee a day. I have researched the blogs and come up with a perfect drink. First I coat my throat with one packet of honey and let it sit there while my coffee is brewed. I then order a half caf which is always decaf Sumatra as it is very low in acid. My caffeinated half is either Sumatra or Komodo Dragon both of which are a 2 out of 5 on the acidity scale.

A small amount of soy milk is complementary (a little less than 4 ounces in the US or 1 inch in Canada) to top off the drink

I also make a hot chocolate with half almond milk and half 1% milk with alkalized chocolate (Dutch processed) and half carob powder. It is topped off with 1tsp of pure vanilla and a sprinkle of cinnamon. Enjoy!

Couple of suggestions based on my experience! I have extreme problems with acid and am on Alkaline Diet.

Try cold brew coffee with almond milk at coffee shops. Also American coffees are not stomach tested & very acidic. Some European coffee are processed with alkali like chocolate. I settled on weak but tasty Joseph Kronung regular. I make it at home & drop a pinch of salt in it. Then I drink Japanese Uji No Sato Green Tea - the very best, highly alkaline.

After I had to ditch the coffee due to acid reflux I found a great substitute, chamomile tea by Tazo ( calm ), it is a blend of chamomile tea with some peppermint , rose-flower and turmeric . Not trying to do a commercial but I love it, it's a twist on chamomile tea and it's lively like a cup of coffee .

Thank u sooooo much :). I recently had to cut coffee and other things out of my diet because I had such a bad attack of acid reflux disease that I ended up in the hospital and missed work for almost a week. It was a really bad one, one of the worst kind of reactions. So I really miss coffee A LOT, so I'm going to try this and hopefully it helps me and suffices like it did for u. Again thank you :)

Everyone can probably relate to that time in high school when all of your friends are discovering coffee and Starbucks becomes a staple morning pit stop and afterschool hangout. [actually, not everyone can. most born in the 1900s can't. that's a north american millennial norm only, all generations prior never had coffee daily or at all. in europe, they did only at formals or bday occasions.]

but i can appreciate the shift from coffee to green tea, and i'm doing it for 7 days now, due to a form of reflux most people have and dont know it called silent/throat reflux where they dont necessarily feel pain/heartburn, but have a raspy voice, and may burp alot, may wake up 'choking' when horizontal due to reflux (or they might clear their throats due to thick mucous often due to it triggering PND/allergy-type reactions).

this reflux has us burp pepsins into the throat, they lodge into tissue and wait for a dozen triggers that are super specific (not just acidic) incl forms of caffeine, lactose, chocolate, mint ie peppermint, spearmint, onion, garlic, peppers, some spices, a few fruits i.e. pineapple, a few fats (that's half the list, for full list you'll have to google it). the pepsins then dig deeper into us scarring/irritating us, forcing the immune system to send more mucous down to get rid of them (allergy symptoms).

i'm drinking earl gray latte's with coconut milk, 1 pump of your favorite nut flavor. also called 'london fog' i'm told. earl is a black tea, but you can get it as a green tea too (bigelow makes one). lastly, the longer you steep the bag, the more acidic it gets, said another experimenter guy, so 3min and yank it aka as soon as you sit down with it should be about 3min.
