Hi Kat!! Thanks so much for letting me know-- I will have my web designer go in and make my font bigger so it's easier to read!! Definitely don't want it to be difficult for people. Alternately, are you a subscriber to the blog? If so, you get emails straight to your inbox and I find that font super easy to read!! xx

i like this post and i agree, rest days are super important! i've recently committed to a much busier workout schedule (muay thai 2x, trx & kb 2x, barre 1x & alpine skiing 1x per week) and my muscles (particularly my legs!) are letting me know i need to rest. so today i did just that (plus my bf gave me a nice leg rub :) )! it's the same idea with weightlifting. going with lighter weights for a short while lets you bounce back stronger that before. i just have to remember, like you, to take and commit to rest days!

(on a side note, if i can be honest, i would like to point out that, for me, the font you use for your blog makes it tedious to read. i find it to small. i often start reading your posts and quit a third of the way. i have perfect vision, but it's still too small to make it confortable for me. as a comparison, your comment section i can read no problem, it's a bit bigger. i'm on a laptop. just thought i would let you know as kindly as possible! :) )

I absolutely agree with you. My first rest day in a year was actually last Tuesday, and I can already say that I actually felt a lot better on Wednesday! It was a good break, but then again, I love exercising so much!

Somehow you must have read my mind!! After reading your fitness-adict post and thinking about how you are training for a marathon AND doing the barre3 challenge, I was curious about how your body was handling all of that exercise, because I know that the barre3 workouts have been effecting my own running. They exhaust the leg muscles so much and then my runs don't feel as great. I love both so much though and I never feel complete without getting both workouts in regularly throughout the week. I had a similar weekend experience as you- I ran too much on Saturday and also took a 1.5 hour walk... my legs were so tired at the end of the day and even into the next morning. So i decided Sunday would be a REAL rest day- and I didn't even go for a walk, which is my usual "rest day" exercise of choice ( but my walks are more like hikes). Anyways, I felt so good about listening to my body on Sunday. I even treated myself to a nice leisurely breakfast and enjoyed the opportunity to lay in bed and read for a bit instead of jumping up as soon as I awoke to get right into workout mode. I'm really glad you posted this and as we begin a new month, I am going to make a goal of including more rest in my routine! But I am also wondering if you have any advice for balancing HIIT/barre3 workouts with running? Would love any tips about that!

I definitely relate to over-committing to workouts and not getting enough rest!! I have classpass, which I LOVE, and always try to get my money's worth by trying to book a class everyday and sometimes I try to fit in two. I travel for work, so I try to take full advantage of the studios when I'm in town, despite the fact that I still fit in workouts when I travel, so I'm not really resting. It's great to hear that taking a day of rest enhanced your workout the next day! I love Barry's Bootcamp, which is similar to Orange Theory, and I'm curious to see how my body will excel if I take some time off before. Also, I LOVED the book Brain on Fire--great choice!

i find even on my rest days i "have to" do something. So instead of going for a run or doing a TIU workout i'll just go in my backyard and hula hoop (silly i know, but it takes care of the i have to do something voice in my head) through an episode of daria or sabrina the teenage witch. Also, i have seen a lot of people in the blogosphere and IG talk about that exact calm supplement. I must look into it.

It's definitely hard to remember that rest days are, in fact, integral parts of an overall fitness routine. Thank you for this reminder; and I'm glad you're taking the rest days too! :)
