Lisa, wow, thanks, again!

I was trying it for joint health, I don't make bone broth often and I read that collagen could help. Mainly for a damaged knee. I am 50 as well, this event has cost me 15+ pounds that I could sorely use back. My pulse has eased to around 80 now and that has helped me rest. With that my weight loss has stopped but I haven't regained any yet. It is just shy of two weeks since I stopped taking the collagen. And my ankles have gone back to normal with the swelling gone.

Following your example, I have added these bits of information in hopes that someone else that this happens to will know that ceasing the supplement might ease the symptoms as it has for me. Whether I will recover or not remains to be seen, I won't look to be recovered for several months based on your timeline and how much damage has been done.

I have used coconut oil for years and sometimes coconut flakes, I have eaten organic for decades and have mostly been Primal in diet. I have been trying to eat more carbs lately - Oatmeal - to regain weight. I will look into your B1 Folate and selenium after my next blood test. You have been such a help and have eased some of my worries, "thanks" doesn't cover it ...

Thank you. I really started to doubt it was the collagen but now that I see this, I know. I wonder how many other people this is happening to. I wish I could get the word out about it! I started taking it to build up the fat pads on my feet as I was suffering from sore feet. So, like you, I didn't even really take it for weight loss, tho I did have 5-10 lbs to loose. Just so you know, I've remained thin. Well, at a good weight, 116lbs, 5'3", I'm 50 years old. My normal weight for years was around 123. This is the only side effect I've enjoyed.

Also thanks for letting me know I was hearing my pulse in my ears. I never know quite know how to describe that crazy sensation/sound. I knew it wasn't tinnitus as the person replying below me states.

I eat/drink lots of coconut, that helps regulate your thyroid. I also started taking B1 Folate & Selenium. It probably wouldn't hurt to try these as they too help regulate the thyroid. I wish you all the best.

Thank you, you have given me some hope! I started taking it daily to help with my knee in late October and last week I as diagnosed hyperthyroid. I had rapid heart rate even at rest, headaches and weight loss, pulse in my ears and very little sleep like you describe. I am scheduled to another blood test in a month or so, hopefully this will go away in time as it did for you. Thank you again for sharing, it means a lot!

You are the only other person I've found that has been impacted the same way I was by the collagen. When I first started loosing weight I simply thought it was "speeding up my metabolism" as stated on the package. Then my heart started pumping out of my chest, ears ringing, headache, huge weight loss. Weight loss is unusual for me.

I can tell you that I am now back to normal as far as my thyroid goes. I did bounce back and forth from hyper to hypo before I returned to normal. The whole process took about 8 months before I returned to normal. Strangely, my weight stayed low.

Lisa, is this still a problem for you? I think something very similar happened to me. I am just diagnosed and was researching everything when I found your comment. I wish I had read your comment months ago and I never would have tried collagen. If you could, please let me know if you are doing better. Thank you!

My suggestion is to research two possibilities. If you have amalgams (silver fillings in your teeth) you may have pulled excess amounts of mercury which can poison the thyroid. The other is that you may have induced a folate and B vitamin deficiency, in which case you should consider methyl-folate and methy B with adB specifically. Thorne research sells these forms. Some research will help. Tinnitus can be mercury or folate deficiency related.

I hope you receive this message. Your symptoms mimic those of mercury toxicity. At your age (mine too) I would imagine you have silver fillings in your teeth. These are toxic - 50% mercury. Accidentally pulling more mercury off the fillings than is emitted daily, by taking even natural supplements, is not unusual. If you have any silver fillings or composites with metal/flouride, you may have become poisoned when your body used components of the supplement to detoxify. The body can and does harbor mercury in the thyroid causing thyroid disease. The ringing in the ears, tinnitus, can be cause by mercury going to the head/brain. If you have any questionable fillings, it is time to study up on the fillings, see youtube videos watch the IAOMT videos on the subject, and find a highly qualified biological dentist to replace them with a composite/inlays that have NO metal what-so-ever. I have no thyroid at all and am dealing with detoxing after amalgam removal, and have tinnitus. I had many other symptoms. First things first, get off all supplements to stop pulling anything off your fillings. This information would possibly apply to anyone having any type of metal implant in their body. Good luck, well wishes.

Love this post! I have been trying to incorporate collagen into my everyday life as it such an important protein to get and the benefits are endless. But as a college student I am wondering where/how much of it I should be buying to save money, and how often I should be incorporating it into my diet each week. Also, I have been using collagen in my coffee... but what other ways can I get this source of protein?

My thyroid was completely normal in Feb. In May I started take collagen peptides in my morning coffee. By the middle of July it had caused hyperthyroidism. I'm not sure everyone should be promoting this stuff. I'm very sick now. Down 12 lbs since I started taking it but I wasn't overweight. My heart is beating out of my chest. I'm now on beta blockers to control it. I'm 49 and was on NO prescription drugs before this. Ringing in my ears, edema in one ankle, hyper yet exhausted all the time. Dizzy from the beta blockers, etc.... Bad stuff.
