Good morning, and happy Monday! Guess what I did this weekend? Gave myself some time off, and let go of my routine as much as possible… Eek! Sometimes it’s oh so important to give our hearts and minds a rest from the pressure of always being “on” when it comes to work – even when you love what you do.
Between the blog, TBV Apparel, TBV Cleanse Program, writing my novel, writing the summer cleanse, trying to stay on top of emails, planning some fun upcoming events and planning my move, most weekends do not entail taking a break. But this weekend my best friend Danielle was in town from San Francisco, and there was no way I wasn’t going to take a step back and soak in every moment with her!
It was extra exciting to have Danielle because she, my roommate Katie and I have all been best friends since we were young. The three of us were inseparable at our tiny little school, and we miss her terribly now that we live across the country from her! We all like to do the same things (probably due to the fact that we were as wild as it gets when we were teenagers, we are all very mellow now) and I laugh more with the two of them than anyone else I know.
Although it kills me a little that you haven’t heard from me since Wednesday, I am happy to say that I lived in the moment all weekend and tried my best not to worry about work – something that normally gives me quite a bit of anxiety. I even let my normal health guard waaayyy down and indulged in a (very) boozy brunch yesterday with my friends. Key word: boozy. Still feeling it? Yes.
It also helped that I was sent these incredible organic cocktail mixers from Paleta for the weekend of fun – so I couldn’t pass up using these at every chance I got! Danielle and Katie were joking that if organic mixers is what it takes to get me to drink, then we need to have a full supply of them all the time.
My favorite was probably the Coco Colada Crush, but I seriously loved all of the flavors. I loved the Magic Mudslide… but I am not much of a chocolate with alcohol kind of girl, so I actually kept sipping on that one on its own. Whoops. 😉
My favorite combo was mixing the Coco Colada Crush with a few shots of vodka, ice and a lime. Mmmm. And this is what we turned into after “taste-testing” the mixers and drinks all morning:
We were having so much fun we almost forgot Danni still had to pack…
Anyway, of course hopping all over NYC with someone who had never been to NYC before meant hitting up all the best restaurants and eating some super yummy food. Think Peacefood Café, Candle 79, Juice Press, Wild, Smorgasburg, Buddakan and Sotto 13. Luckily Danielle was willing (and excited!!) to try my healthy vegan places, even though she is not a veg herself (her favorite food is hotdogs).
But I will save all of the food photos for What I Ate Wednesday. Except for this delicious “Phatty Beet Slider” salad from Chickpea and Olive at the Brooklyn Flea on Saturday… now THAT was amazing.
And here’s me and Paul being lady & the tramp with our Paleta-infused cocktail. If you haven’t read Paul’s guest post yet from last week, do yourself a favor and check it out. Beyond inspiring and of course fabulously well-written.
Moral of my weekend: It’s okay to let go, step outside of your routine, drink copious amounts of alcohol in one sitting if it means having a blast with your friends and living in the moment, eat a few bites of something totally indulgent (vegan donuts at the flea?!?! Heck yeah) and to save your work for Monday morning. Sometime’s it can be hard managing this very non-traditional work style, especially because I love everything I do so much that I never want to stop doing it, but I am getting the hang of it and having a blast along the way.
So happy to be back writin’ away!! Hope everyone is having a fab start to their weeks. OH, and I started TBV 5-Day Cleanse today along with a fantastic group of cleansers… there is still time to join us if you’d like! Pop on over to purchase the cleanse and get more info at TBV Cleanse!
